Key Facts

SUPRO Surgical Patties comprise a non-woven 100% cotton sponge which is:


- Smooth on both sides reducing likelihood of sensitive tissue damage by adhesion.


- Has a thickness of 1 mm which is comparable to the leading brand.


- Highly absorbent, 20 times its own weight circa 4 times that of the leading brand. 


- X-ray detectable, via a narrow radiopaque strip on one side.


- Identifiable during a procedure by a securely attached black yarn 31 cm long.


- Hypoallergenic and biocompatible.


- Able to provide effective bleeding control (haemostasis), due to its high suction capacity.


- Available in 9 sizes.


A key differation factor is that the SUPRO devices are available for a fraction of the cost of the leading brand; thereby releasing scarce resources.


SUPRO Surgical Patties are Class III medical devices and certified compliant to the requirements of the EU Medical Device Directives by Notified Body 2292.

Intended Use

SUPRO Sponge is a soft and absorbent cotton sponge used to protect nervous tissue, absorb fluids and blood during neurological and other surgical operations. 


It is indicated for use in operations such as Neurosurgery, Spinal surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Vascular and Microscopic surgeries when cauterization is not possible. 


The SUPRO Sponge helps to prevent bleeding spread and provide compression by its own mass pressure due to absorption.


- It is recommended to apply the surface without the X-ray strip.


- it is not recommended to touch by hands as it will cause linting of the sponge;  

   it should be handled with forceps.


- Sponges should not remain in operation area over 1 (one) hour. 

   They CANNOT BE LEFT in body.

Contraindication

- Do not apply on infected wounds.


- It is not recommended to use on patients who are allergic to silk and cotton.


- Leaving behind a whole, or part of a sponge in the surgical area may result in the need to 

   repeat the operation.


- Do not cut the sponge to reduce size.


- It is recommended to take sponge out from body within 1 (one) hour.


- The identification string attached to the sponge only for tracking purpose. It cannot 

   be left inside body.

Product Overview:

Patty Front & Back

Each Patty has:

  1. Smooth surface on both sides
  2. X-Ray detectable strip on one side.
  3. 31 cm long black medical grade synthetic polyester yarn for identification purposes only and not for removing the pattie from the wound.
  4. Yarn knott securely attaching it to the patty


Patty Counting Card

  1. Each patty is supplied mounted on a counting card.
  2. Every counting card has 10 patties attached
  3. At the end of a procedure the counting card can be used to account for all patties placed within the sterile field.

Sterile Pouch

10 sterile patties are mounted on the counting card, which is supplied inside an easy peel sterile pouch. Each sterile pouch is fully labelled including with the GTIN bar code.

SUPRO Neurosurgical patties Unit of Issue is 20 sterile pouches (200 patties) per box.
